Echoes of Erosion | The landscapes that shape us

This sculptural series grows from a deep appreciation for the dynamic dialogue between human-made forms and the natural world. Each vessel begins as a quiet conversation with the desert — its inspired Adobe dwellings, its soft, wind-carved curves, and the shifting sands of the Sahara.

Experimenting with new clays and textured surfaces, seeking to evoke an earthy, organic presence — objects that feel both ancient and nomadic. The warm tones, shifting from sunrise to dusk, reflect the changing light of the desert holding the rhythm of a landscape always in motion.

These vessels are not meant to imitate the desert, but to carry its feeling - grounded, weathered, spacious, and full of quiet beauty. I hope they offer a moment of stillness and connection, inviting a sense of the harmony between the places we build and the landscapes that shape us.

In this mini MONUMENT series titled Echoes of the Future, sheer lines plunge into dramatic curves, bridging the past to the future, while the use of textured clay cradles and deepens the shadows. 

Echoes of the Future takes inspiration from the Spomenik Database, which explores the abstract and futuristic Spomeniks (or monuments) scattered across the former Yugoslavia between 1960—1990. Set in remote locations, the Spomeniks appear lost from the future, abandoned and forlorn.

Creating Objét for Architects

This playful new series is based on dream collaborations with mid-century modern architects that have inspired Jans work. It is both an homage to and celebration of the work of these architects, while also investigating the genesis of creative expression. Each instalment in the series focuses on a different influence, with pieces that respond to a specific architectural space, and highlights the respect and admiration at the heart of the series!

Dream brief no. 1: Carlo Scarpa’s Olivetti Showroom, Venice

In this first body of work, Jan fulfils an imagined brief from Italian architect Carlo Scarpa (1906—1978) for his Olivetti Showroom completed in 1958. These artworks speak to and highlight Scarpa’s iconic design – a harmony of organic materials, textures and linear brass elements. Her response is imbued with an honesty and reverence that is clear in both intention and materiality.
