Clay Sculptor and Ceramic Artist

Melbourne-based Jan Vogelpoel produces one-off sculptural pieces
that reflect her love of organic shapes, vibrant shades, and graphic lines.

Born in the UK, raised in South Africa, Jan has worked with clay
for over 20 years, honing her skills under the direction of famed
Capetonian ceramicist Barbara Jackson and teacher Karen Scott.
Jan has fulfilled numerous commissions and is currently represented
by Modern Times in Fitzroy.

Jan’s current body of work reflects her passion for the process of
bringing an idea to life through manipulating and building sculptural
pieces that carry the energy of nature and the maker, which is something
she finds both grounding and challenging, but ultimately rewarding.
A passion for interiors, a love of mid-century design and influences
of Barbara Hepworth’s sculpture work are evident in her work.

Having worked in wheelwork at Slow Clay in Collingwood recently,
Jan is currently working at Tracy Muirhead Studio building sculptural work
and exploring the exciting textures and forms offered by earthenware,
paper clay, sculpture clay, black clay and terracotta.
